What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it?
The last thing? Split pea soup. (We’ll go with 2011 on this one.) Non vegetarian split pea soup, too. With an actual ham bone that was used to make the stock. This is what comes of hosting not one, but two family gatherings in your parents’ new house at Christmastime — obscene amounts of leftover food and a huge kitchen in which to do justice to the bits and bobs that don’t get eaten. (Hence the split pea soup.)
In order to make said soup, I used the following:
a dab of olive oil
2 small onions
2 carrots, diced
2 celery stalks, diced
2 cups yellow split peas
1 ham hock
I also made use of the handy hand blender that we got for Christmas. Soup turned out fabulous. Thank you, Canadian Living.
As for what I want to make during the rest of 2011, well. In addition to making a great many more meals, and making (if by making we can also mean writing) more stories, I want to make a home. I want to find some place to settle down in, even if only for another year or two, snag myself a beautiful little apartment, and go about making it into a home. Hopefully, it will be a home that will welcome lots of people, a place where these people feel relaxed and inspired.
And, just so that the Universe gets a clear idea of the kind of home I’m aiming for (who says prayers don’t need to be specific?), I would like my home to have the following:
a baby grand piano
a STUPIDLY comfortable bed
a guest bedroom
a kitchen that allows for dinner parties
a SPACE that allows for dinner parties
an eminently usable desk, by which I mean a desk that’s practically a table. That’s how large it has to be.
a meditation space/room (possibly combined with the study, as above? Or one on its own … ooh, the possibilities.)
There. That is all, for today.
In other news — revisions! We are officially in full swing now. Which means that I sat down to write for five hours today, and actually wrote for about two of them. If even that. Man, I’m so productive it scares me …
